Welcome to the Illawarra Bushland Database.
Here you can find vegetation survey data from across the Illawarra region from Helensburgh in the north, to the Shoalhaven River in the south.
The Database was first developed in 2000 by the Nature Conservation Council of NSW with funding assistance from the NSW Environmental Trust and the National Heritage Trust. In 2011, the Database was updated and improved by Wollongong City Council, Shellharbour City Council and Kiama Municipal Council under the Illawarra Biodiversity and Local Food Strategy for Climate Change project funded by the NSW Environmental Trust.
The most significant single contributor to the flora survey data in this database is the late Anders Bofeldt (1964-2011). Anders spent a large part of three decades from his early teens passionately exploring and recording the flora of the Illawarra, and beyond. He contributed vast amounts of knowledge on the distribution of plants of the Illawarra, particularly rare and threatened species. He leaves behind a living legacy through this wealth of botanical knowledge.
